Keeping The Love Alive
Feedback   Send to Friends   Print

Sharing a zestful, joyful life is at the core of every family unit, especially when your teenage children are spending more time outside with their friends than home. That’s why it’s so important to schedule family sessions or outings that enhance relationships and bring on the love that is so often forgotten in the daily grind of life. Whether it’s a weekly, monthly or yearly ritual, make sure that they leave sweet memories in your lives so that there’ll be a great taste of anticipation for the next family event!

Eating together
As kids go through their growing years, it’s inevitable that they get caught up with more activities in school and with friends. It’s a good idea to choose one meal a day, whether it’s breakfast or dinner, where you can sit together and talk about anything under the sun. You can also get your teenage child to take turns in helping out with the meal preparation, like setting the table or doing the dishes together.

The Great Annual Family Trip
Holidays are always a great way to bring forth togetherness, and could very well be “the highlight of the year” for teenagers. When making decisions on where to go and what to do, consider suggestions from the whole family, and try your best to commit to it. You can also start a family tradition by creating a scrapbook of photos and memorabilia from every trip, so that the memories will always be around!

Hear! Hear!
As with all family conversations, it’s important to put a close ear to your teens’ thoughts and opinions when making family decisions, whether they’re big issues like moving house, or smaller issues like changing the curtains, or painting the walls. To encourage them to speak up, you can start a Dialogue Day where they’re given the right to express their opinions and speak their minds, so as to enhance their sense of belonging and trust, and close the generation gap between you and them.
