Platter matters - Your guide to guilt-free festive feasting
Feedback   Send to Friends   Print

Janet, a number crunching accountant, Meera, a school teacher, and Sharina, a mom with tiny tots aged 5 and 7, share their secrets on keeping festive favourites healthy. Go on, indulge without guilt.

…on the main course
Sharina suggested this twist on the traditional ulam: “I prefer half ripened mangoes and papayas instead of the usual veggies. They’ll add colour and a special flavour to your ulam.

As much as possible, I serve the veggies raw.” “Now that’s something I’m going to try! Speaking of substituting, I tried NESTLÉ IDEAL Cooking Creamer for my rendang and my family loved it. I shared the tip with my mother and now she’s a fan too,” said Janet.

“You know…a great combination for that rendang would be rice cooked with MAGGI® Chicken Stock with no added MSG, combined with pandan, coriander, cashew nuts and raisins. It’s a delicious recipe that looks good and tastes great,” added Meera.

…on desserts
Meera offered this helpful tip: “I use sunflower oil instead of the usual cooking oil for my kuih bunga. It is a source of Vitamin E.”

“My little trick to keeping cookies and kuih bunga crisp is to place sugar lumps inside the tins to absorb moisture,” added Sharina.

“My guests love it when I serve yogurt drinks instead of the usual cordials and sirap they get elsewhere. I usually add slices of fruit to the Nestlé® Bliss® Light Yogurt Drink. It has 0% fat and 0% cholesterol...!” said Janet

Sharina’s Quick cook-ups
When more guests show up than expected, Sharina stays calm with these solutions

People’s favourite
Here’s a colourful dish that’s tasty and guilt-free. Throw together cubed apples and
drained canned tuna. Instead of mayonnaise, mix in fat-free Nestlé® Bliss® Yogurt Orange and serve on lettuce leaf.

Razzle dazzle tofu
For a delicious dish with the least preparation, serve chilled white tofu with a sprinkle of sesame oil, MAGGI® Dark Soya Sauce and Light Soya Sauce. Then, sit back and enjoy the compliments.

Anytime pumpkin
Just boil 2kg of cubed pumpkins with 3 cups of milk and 1 tablespoon of sunflower oil. Add MAGGI® Chicken Stock with no added MSG for extra taste. Serve as a soup, a salad dip or even a pasta sauce.

Toast with the most
Get creative. Mix and match whatever is on hand. For example, toss together chunks
of fresh tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and mangoes. Add a bit of MAGGI® Chilli or
Tomato Ketchup and serve on piping hot toasted French loaf. Serve immediately or keep warm in the oven.
