From Farm to Fork: A Journey with Nestlé Chilli Club

From Farm to Fork: A Journey with Nestlé Chilli Club

Leading Nutrition, Health and Wellness company, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, recently brought members of the media on an enlightening trip to the Nestlé Chilli Club (NCC) in Kelantan.

The visit was aimed at providing media with the opportunity to learn more experience first-hand on Nestlé Malaysia’s Sustainable Agriculture Initiatives like NCC and understand its Creating Shared Value principles driving responsible sourcing.

As part of Nestlé’s business philosophy of Creating Shared Value, the NCC initiative was founded to educate chilli farmers on best agricultural practices in order to produce high quality yields. The NCC is a 20-year-old contract farming scheme between the Nestlé Agricultural Services Department and Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan Bukit Awang (PPKBA).

During the media familiarisation trip, members of the media visited the chilli farms at Gong Kemuning. There, they had the opportunity to talk to the NCC farmers and learn more about their lives as well as the positive impact of the NCC initiative. The farmers were eager to share their experiences as well as elaborate on the support and training they receive from the NCC.

Nestlé representatives as well as PPKBA officers were also on hand to give media an insight into Nestlé’s various CSV initiatives, and how the NCC provides a stable and sustainable source of income for the rural farmers, as well as ensuring a stable supply of chilli for the production of MAGGI Chilli Sauce.

In addition, media visited the Kebun Dapur Maggi at Gong Kulim, which is dedicated to innovative research and development for improving the productivity of crops. Apart from that, media had the opportunity to speak to teachers and students of SMK Dato’ Ismail, as NCC and PPKBA work with the school’s Agricultural Club to teach the students to grow their own chilli plants.

To mark the end of a successful trip, the group was treated to a fun shopping experience at Pasar Besar Siti Khadijah, and everyone brought home some local goodies.
