World Earth Day 2016: Reinforcing Our Commitment to Preserve Mother Earth

ROCKS Slipper Project

In conjunction with World Earth Day’s theme for 2016 – Trees for the Earth, Nestlé Malaysia is proud to reinforce our commitment to greening the environment.

Since 2011, we have been playing a vital role in preserving the environment through Project Rileaf, a riparian reforestation effort along the Lower Kinabatangan River in Sabah, the second longest river in Malaysia. With our partner Sime Darby Foundation, the initiative protects the rich biodiversity in the Kinabatangan and safeguards a critical resource at the same time – water.

Project RiLeaf has an active role in palm oil sustainability which involves key stakeholders, namely the local communities through capacity building as well as the smallholders. Through this, we have educated oil palm smallholders on sustainable agricultural practices, as well as guided 115 of them to receive the RSPO group certification.

We have planted more than 480,000 trees since the project was introduced. There is much more to be done, as we aim to reforest 2,400 hectares of degraded forest, which is equivalent to over 3,200 football fields.
