Held for the first time in Malaysia, the 25th World Economic Forum on ASEAN titled ‘Shaping the ASEAN Agenda for Inclusion and Growth’ hosted regional leaders and stakeholders. The two-day programme aims to address the fresh challenges that awaits the South-East Asian region in its aim to establish itself as a key player in the global economy.

Region Head of Nestlé Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Mr. Alois Hofbauer was invited to be a panellist at two key programmes held at the Forum; A Breakfast Panel Discussion organised by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) titled ‘Unlocking the Productivity Paradox’ and PricewaterhouseCoopers’ (PwC) press conference and panel discussion on ‘How Can Business Restore Trust’.

At the BCG Breakfast Panel Discussion, Hofbauer stated that Nestlé’s philosophy of investing conscientiously in various facets of the business has allowed it to flourish for 150 years globally whilst creating numerous opportunities for the company to be more competitive. The Nestlé Continuous Excellence platform is the Company’s continuous investment to improve productivity and reduce waste across the organisation.  

Hofbauer also spoke about innovation being the lifeblood of Nestlé and how its employees are made to be part of this strategy in reigniting the growth. Hofbauer shared the stage with Tan Sri Dr. Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria, Secretary General of Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), Dato’ Yasmin Mahmood, CEO of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC), Michael Foong, Group Chief  Strategy Officer of the Maybank Group and Dato' Sri Shazalli Ramly, CEO of Celcom Axiata Bhd.

Meanwhile at the PwC press conference, Hofbauer discussed how Nestlé plays a quintessential role in building trust through our Creating Shared Value business philosophy, where we establish mutually-beneficial relationship with stakeholders through initiatives such as Nestlé Paddy Club and Nestlé Chilli Club. Hofbauer also shared how Nestlé strengthens consumer trust through product safety and quality. Dato' Faiz Azmi, PwC Malaysia’s Executive Chairman who was on the panel also shared his views on why building trust is an asset for businesses and building trust while remaining authentic. Moderated by Georg Schmitt, WEF’s Lead Corporate Affairs and Foundations, the discussion was centred on PwC’s thought leadership report on ‘Trust in Business’, which was launched at the press conference.

Nestlé Malaysia was the runner-up of the PwC Building Trust Awards.
