Back to Press releases

Closes the year with donations of school supplies to over 1,100 families across Malaysia

Following its pledge earlier this year to contribute RM15 million to support Malaysians during this COVID-19 pandemic, Nestlé Malaysia today announced that it has fulfilled this commitment by investing in a wide programme of initiatives in support of those most impacted by the pandemic. The Company’s year-long efforts culminated in its Nestlé Cares Back-To-School Programme in collaboration with the Empire Project NGO, to donate school uniforms and supplies, as well as Nestlé products to over 1,100 low-income families.

Amongst many other initiatives, this programme includes Nestlé’s partnership with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) to distribute food and beverage (F&B) products to help nourish frontliners and communities in need, along with a cash contribution of RM1 million for upgrading of emergency medical equipment in MRCS ambulances.

Throughout the year, multiple other initiatives were also spearheaded to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable communities, particularly within the B40 groups and impacted local small and medium enterprises. This included the Nestlé Salary for Life Contest (Peraduan Nestlé Gaji Seumur Hidup), whereby Nestlé leveraged the opportunity to give back to society by providing donations to 17 charitable organisations, nominated by the 17 finalists of the contest. The Bangkit Bersama Nestlé Campaign (Rise with Nestlé) was also launched to support local F&B operators through trade assistance programmes and cash contributions.

Since the start of the Movement Control Order at the beginning of the year, popular brands MAGGI, MILO, and KITKAT have also rallied in support of the Rakyat through a number of community programmes, including the MAGGI Bubur Lambuk Distribution, MAGGI SAH Malaysia distribution of meal kits to the B40 communities, MILO Skuad Kebaikan e-commerce product donations to vulnerable communities and KITKAT’s Break Bus campaign to healthcare workers.

The Nestlé Milks Business unit also coordinated a big donation drive, sponsoring over RM4.5 million worth of nutritious EVERYDAY products to over 85,000 Malaysians from vulnerable communities impacted by COVID-19, including PPR communities, charity homes, as well as to frontliners based in hospitals across Malaysia.

East Malaysia Specific Contributions

Given the heightened situation in East Malaysia, Nestlé Malaysia contributed more than RM541,000 in products and cash donations to more than 30,000 Sabahans, including frontliners as well as families and communities in need. The Group distributed products to a total of 8,840 healthcare workers at hospitals across the State, namely Kota Kinabalu Hospital, Lahad Datu Hospital, Sandakan Hospital, Semporna Hospital, Tawau Hospital, Klinik Kesihatan Sandakan, Tuaran Hospital, Papar Hospital and Kota Belud Hospital.

Nestlé also provided a cash contribution of RM100,000 to MRCS to be utilised for the purchase of personal protective equipment for frontliners and attending to community needs such as diapers, soap and toothpaste.

This saw the Group providing new school uniforms, school shoes, school bags and stationery, as well as Family Care Pack containing Nestlé products for the nourishment of the families.

East Coast Contributions

In response to the flooding in East Coast states, Nestlé extended assistance through MRCS by donating cash and products amounting to close to RM200,000. The products were distributed to Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan, aiding approximately 500 families.
