SHAH ALAM, May 4, 2017 – In conjunction with Labour Day, leading food and beverage manufacturer Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad is proud to celebrate its highly-productive, home-grown Malaysian workforce. To witness this first-hand, the Group today welcomed YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah bin Zainudin, Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives & Consumerism (MDTCC) for a visit to its Nestlé Shah Alam Factory Complex.
The Nestlé Shah Alam Factory Complex has a history of close to 40 years and produces a wide range of leading Nestlé brands including NESCAFÉ, CERELAC and Ready-to-Drink products. During the visit, YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah was taken on a tour through the factory’s training centre and production line, demonstrating highly efficient manufacturing processes. YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah also had the opportunity to speak to several long-serving Malaysian employees who shared their experience working with Nestlé.
YB Dato’ Seri Hamzah bin Zainudin commented, “As we strive to achieve our objective of transforming Malaysia into a high-income nation, investments from companies such as Nestlé into building up manufacturing capability and human capital development is a reflection of the global market’s confidence in our nation’s capabilities and prospects.”
“Nestlé’s commitment towards local human capital development through the years is truly laudable. It is imperative to generate a skilled Malaysian talent pool to drive the country forward and spur economic growth as we embark on the final stretch towards realising Vision 2020. As such, in line with the National Blue Ocean Strategy, MDTCC looks forward to collaborating with Nestlé and other companies to facilitate our nation’s transformation.”
Mr. Alois Hofbauer, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, said, “We have always put Malaysians first in our hiring process and are proud to share that 100% of our workforce are Malaysians. We take the strongest Malaysian potential and develop them into a powerful workforce that is engaged, empowered and exceptionally productive. That is what gives us a competitive edge.”
“We believe in investing into building our Malaysian talent to drive growth for our Company. In 2016 alone, we have invested over RM11 million on training and development programmes for all our employees and have committed over 60,000 hours towards training our world-class factory workforce,” shared Mr. Hofbauer.

To-date, the NCE platform has doubled productivity and delivered year-on-year reductions in manufacturing cost. Nestlé’s high productivity and efficiency has also enabled its high quality products to stay affordable for all Malaysians, which makes it highly competitive. Productivity savings are also reinvested back into building its brands to ensure long-term growth for the business.
“We believe in the power of our local talent and are committed to continue recruiting the best Malaysian talent, and to train and develop them.
