In line with its commitment to making a positive difference in society, Nestlé Malaysia recently organised a charity fundraising bazaar. As part of Nestlé’s ‘Reaching Out to Community and Kids’ (ROCKS) Employee Volunteer Programme, the ROCKin’ Bazaar saw hundreds of guests dropping by to show their support and participate in fun activities including charity sales and games.
Held at the lobby of Surian Tower, Nestlé volunteers, fondly known as “ROCKers”, set up several sales booths, which were decorated with a rustic English vintage theme. The carnival-like atmosphere was further amplified with cheerful ROCKers promoting various goods for sale to guests, including mouth-watering desserts, a multitude of dishes ranging from local to Western as well as selected Nestlé products. There was also a photo booth set up for visitors to pose with bright and colourful props and snap photos to bring home a piece of their own ROCKin’ moment.
The ROCKin’ Bazaar was a big success as the event succeeded in raising over RM53,000, which is higher than last year’s collection. Proceeds will be channelled towards three charitable organisations, namely Pusat Jagaan Mesra Limpahan Kasih, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Yesuvin Mahligai Selangor and Pusat Jagaan Kanak-kanak Down Syndrome dan Hyper Active. Visitors were also encouraged to pen down their best wishes and thoughts to the residents of these homes on Wish Cards.
Pn. Zainun Nur Abd Rauf, Nestlé’s Executive Director of Group Corporate Affairs said, “We at Nestlé firmly believe in the philosophy of Creating Shared Value as a fundamental part of Nestlé’s way of doing business. Our ROCKS Employee Volunteer Programme is an excellent platform for Nestlé employees to engage and contribute positively to the community in which we operate. It is uplifting to see the enthusiasm displayed by so many of our ROCKers as well as guests at this event.”
“The funds raised today will go a long way towards providing assistance for these charitable homes and also enable the ROCKS Programme to continue undertaking various initiatives to reach out to the underprivileged in the community,” she said.
According to Nestlé ROCKer, Norliyana Othman, “This year’s ROCKin’ Bazaar was amazing, as we received support from hundreds of people and there was a delightful air of excitement during the Bazaar. It was heart-warming to see so many generous visitors dropping by our sales booths and contributing towards a good cause.”
The Nestlé ROCKers were also rewarded for their sales booths, as the MILO Business Unit won “Best Sales Stall” and walked away with RM500 worth of shopping vouchers while the Sales team won “Best Decorated Stall” and took back RM200 worth of shopping vouchers.
Mr. S. Gunarasa, a representative of Pusat Jagaan Kanak-kanak Down Syndrome dan Hyper Active, Bukit Tinggi Klang said, “We were very touched when we read the wonderful messages on the Wish Cards. We would like to thank all the visitors today who contributed to this fundraising effort as well as Nestlé Malaysia for inviting us to be one of the recipients of the funds raised at the Bazaar.”
Earlier this year, Nestlé Malaysia celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Nestlé ROCKS Programme. Since its inception in 2005, Nestlé Malaysia’s ROCKS Employee Volunteer Programme has succeeded in enriching the lives of those in need within the community. Over the past decade, Nestlé ROCKS programme has organised a host of activities, including building homes for the needy in Kg. Hulu Tamu, together with TetraPak, community outreach to the orang asli community in Ulu Batu, Ulu Yam, as well as visits to old folks’ homes and activities with underprivileged children during festive occasions such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, and Deepavali.
