Sarawakian Traditions Take Centre Stage as MAGGI® Honours Local Cooks and Empowers Indigenous Communities
MIRI, 10 August 2024 - As the vibrant chapter of festivities came to an end, MAGGI® celebrated local flavours infused by local cooks at the “Jom Masak & Menang Bersama” finale, which concluded on August 10, 2024. In the spirit of community and togetherness, MAGGI® also shared its appreciation for the joyful and passionate Sarawakian communities who have shown strong support for the brand by giving back to its consumers through an attractive selection of prizes during the harvest festivals.
The champion of the contest, Allen Lee Meng Hieng, 46, a Sales Representative from Sibu, who was accompanied by his wife, Ting Fei Fei were overjoyed to drive home a brand-new ISUZU D-MAX after battling a fierce cooking competition to hero Terung Asam in their dishes. The other seven finalists also walked away with branded household appliances worth RM2,000 each.
Honouring Malaysians' love for food and tradition, the finale was also invigorated by a culinary demonstration by Chef Hakimi, who showcased a local favorite delicacy, ‘Nasi Goreng Daun Pucuk Ubi’ using MAGGI® CukupRasa. This recipe is one of the special recipes developed during the campaign to honour the tireless efforts of everyday cooks who transform meals into joyful feasts and inspire more Sarawakians to recreate their beloved household recipes passed from generation to generation, made convenient with MAGGI® products.
Mr Matthew Anak Dominic Barin, Sarawak director of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), who graced the exciting finale event, shared, “We are grateful to MAGGI® for celebrating with us the delightful festivities of Gawai Dayak every year. MAGGI® has been a long-standing companion to us Sarawakians throughout the decades, giving back to our local indigenous communitiesthrough the annual charity support to help them achieve self-reliance and independence. We hope to continue partnering with MAGGI® in supporting and advancing the culture and traditions of Sarawak for generations to come.”
Basking in the electric atmosphere of the bustling crowd at the finale events was Ms. Ivy Tan Link Cheh, Business Executive Officer of MAGGI®, Malaysia and Singapore. “We are thankful for the opportunity to collaborate with Helping Hands Penan Berhad this year, creating a platform together for our traditional basket weavers to showcase their masterful art pieces while aiding their efforts to empower farmers’ and their livelihoods. I am deeply heartened by the immense tenacity of Sarawakians, and we hope to continue uplifting indigenous locals to provide more opportunities and create a brighter future for them.”
In addition to showing appreciation for the local cooks and their rich cultural heritage, MAGGI® was proud to continue its support towards the indigenous and women communities through its annual donation to selected local charities. For every contest entry received between May 1 to June 30, 2024, MAGGI® pledged to donate RM0.10 to PACOS Trust Sabah and Helping Hands Penan Berhad, two non-government organisations (NGOs) dedicated to empowering the indigenous communities and women to improve their livelihoods in Sarawak. This year, MAGGI® was proud to have raised a total of RM15,000 to contribute to the good work of Helping Hands Penan Berhad.
The MAGGI® Jom Masak & Menang finale at Emart Riam Shopping Mall drew thousands of Sarawakian families, who cheered enthusiastically for the exciting cook-off and crowning of the champion. The lively celebration also featured traditional dance and music, as well as fun-filled booths where visitors explored the rich history of MAGGI’s Chilli Sauce and discovered the unique 12 spices that make MAGGI 2-Minute Kari Noodles a Malaysian favorite.
Beyond the contest and celebrations, MAGGI® hopes to continue being a companion in Sarawakian households and in their lives’ memorable moments. Through unique recipes inspired by their favourite household dishes, MAGGI® hopes to keep the Gawai Dayak spirit alive with Sarawakians’ beloved MAGGI® products, while being the ally to the family cooks in delivering delicious and nutritious meals.
