RNJ Academy Coaches Offer Volunteer Swimming Classes through KLAS Renang Program

PETALING JAYA, JANUARY 3, 2024 – As part of its continued efforts to support the B40 community, MILO® teamed up with the Ministry of Youth and Sports to raise awareness of essential swimming skills and water safety among children through the KLAS Renang Programme.

Initiated in response to the increasing number of drowning incidents in the country, the KLAS Renang program annually selects 1,600 children aged between 6 to 12 years old from various locations nationwide to receive free swimming lessons. The vital initiative focuses on equipping children with life-saving skills and water safety knowledge, empowering them to stay safe in and around water.

Kerwin Lim, Sports Marketing Manager of MILO, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, said, “Water safety and drowning prevention are becoming increasingly important in Malaysia, with young children particularly prone to water-related incidents, including in flood disaster areas. This programme has enabled MILO to contribute towards cultivating a strong safety culture that helps vulnerable children to better deal with being in water by not just learning how to swim but also by building a healthy relationship with water. We were pleased to have the opportunity to support the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and through the KLAS Renang Programme, there are now more informed young Malaysians with greater confidence when swimming. We plan to roll out more of such programmes next year to create a safer environment for all children.”

The programme was rolled out in partnership with RNJ Swimming Academy, an established sporting facility, with registered and certified coaches from the Malaysian Association of Swimming (MAS).

Puan Aida, mother of a 10-year-old daughter, Delisha, shared her positive experience, stating, “I've observed significant progress in my daughter after attending six swimming classes with the coaches. I am eager to continue sending her to more sessions as I believe they will contribute positively to her development in swimming.”

Starting with basic water familiarization and comfort building, the programme also introduced fundamental swimming skills like kicking, stroking, and breathing. The instructors ensured every child progressed at their own pace. Participants were provided with six sessions each, with certificates handed out to all the children at the end of the program.
