MILO Stik Pek X-Change: Diverting used MILO stick packs away from landfills, while helping local communities

Back to Press releases

Petaling Jaya, April 2, 2021 - The simple act of returning used MILO® stick packs and sachets goes a long way towards reducing plastic waste. Through the MILO® Stik Pek X-Change, consumers are invited to return used MILO® stick packs and sachets in an effort to divert plastic waste away from ending up in landfills and waterways.

From 1 March to 31 May 2021, consumers may take part in MILO® Stik Pek X-Change by collecting used MILO® stick packs and sachets up to the required amount, cleaning and returning them via post. For their effort, consumers will be rewarded with limited edition MILO® sports bags, available in four trendy designs.

All stick packs and sachets under the MILO® mixes range, including MILO® Kosong, MILO® Less Sugar, MILO® 3-in-1 and MILO® with Whole Grain Cereal, as well as MILO® Nutri Breakfast (both Banana and Seeds variants) are eligible for the campaign. Each product carries one or two points. To exchange for one of the MILO® sports bags, a total of 50 points is needed.

MILO® Stik Pek X-Change marks an important milestone for MILO® as it embarks on its journey towards promoting environmental sustainability. According to Ng Su Yen, Business Executive Officer, MILO® Business Unit, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, “MILO® Stik Pek X-Change is our way of encouraging Malaysians to adopt easy yet impactful waste management habits in their daily lives. It is also part of the larger MILO® Sayang Bumi movement, a concerted effort that we have undertaken for the good of the planet.”

This initiative aims to collect as many used stick packs as possible but collecting used stick packs is only half of the journey. A portion of the collected stick packs will be upcycled into unique MILO® handicrafts by four local communities who have joined forces on a common goal to protect the environment. They are Upcycled Shack, Inspirasi Kreatif, Nerine Ong and Helping Hands Penan.

“Upcycling is a creative way to reduce plastic waste. By giving the used stick packs a new lease of life and purpose, we wish to show other ways through which the impact of plastic waste can be further reduced as demonstrated by our community partners and inspire our consumers along the way. We hope Malaysians will join us as we take this important first step together,” added Ng.

The impact of MILO® Stik Pek X-Change stretches beyond the environmental benefits, as the   collaboration with the upcycling partners helps to empowers the communities in need and improve their livelihoods through income generation activities. A total of 500 lucky participants will stand a chance to own one of these one-of-a-kind upcycled MILO® collector’s items at the end of the campaign.
