PETALING JAYA, DECEMBER 19, 2023 – Intent on honouring sports excellence among the nation’s budding champions and inspiring the younger generation to embrace active lifestyles, MILO® joined forces with the Ministry of Education (MOE) on the Malaysia Schools Sports Council (MSSM) more than six decades ago and have spearheaded the groundbreaking MOE-MSSM-MILO® Sports Awards since 1968.

Marking its 54th edition last year, the 2022 MOE-MSSM-MILO® Awards ceremony, held at Everly Hotel, Putrajaya recently, recognised the stellar accomplishments in 13 categories that paid tribute to the young stars as well as the teachers and coaches who supported them in their journey of sports excellence. Among the notable recipients of the 2022 awards was Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi, who clinched the KPM Anugerah Emas. The 19-year-old sprint sensation from Malacca made headlines with a historic bronze in the 2023 Asian Games 100m, the first medal to be won in the 100m by a Malaysian after 41 years.

With more than 500 winners already in the awards’ hall of accomplishments, the transformative awards once again showcased young Malaysian athletes with world-class talent, while also shining a light on the supportive individuals who made invaluable contributions to their success.

Lim Ker Win, Sports Marketing Manager of MILO, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, said, “Championing grassroots sports development in the country has been deeply embedded in MILO’s DNA for decades. MILO has become synonymous with Malaysia, reflecting the brand's deep connection with Malaysians. Through this collaborative effort, which has played a pivotal role in cultivating a culture of excellence through sports from a young age, we take great pride and joy in seeing the tremendous accomplishments of young athletes from all walks of life.”

“As a brand that has grown alongside generations of Malaysians, we truly understand the significance of the right support to develop important values through sports that can unleash one’s potential in life. We are grateful for the opportunity to help shape these young achievers and champions of tomorrow, and to acknowledge the teachers, coaches and other unsung heroes who helped motivate them."

As one of the most influential platforms in the Malaysian sporting scene, MSSM’s efforts have been amplified through the long-standing partnership with MILO as main sponsor for the past seventy years.

MSSM has been instrumental in uncovering hidden talent among young individuals in primary and secondary schools, propelling them to pursue their chosen fields of sports and become prominent names in various sporting arenas. Today, the MOE-MSSM-MILO® Awards serve as the bedrock for promising athletes to flourish and represent Malaysia on the regional and global stages.

Lim Ker Win added, “At MILO, we understand that the impact of sports and are committed to playing our part in supporting and spearheading more initiatives that shine a spotlight on the positive values brought about by sports. We hope this year’s winners will move forward with their dreams and ambitions, and more young Malaysians discover the value of sports and how it goes beyond the arena.”
