The Company continues to drive programme to facilitate waste separation and collection for recycling

Petaling Jaya, October 26, 2021 - Maintaining its momentum to step up recycling efforts in support of the environment, Nestlé Malaysia today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to officially launch a Strata Housing Collection and Recycling Programme in Shah Alam. This marks the Company’s first pilot project to provide recycling collection for high-rise homes after successful initiatives in landed housing communities in Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya.

Recognising the additional collection challenges and the need to raise awareness on good recycling practices amongst strata housing communities, Nestlé is partnering with MBSA to conduct a pilot programme with 540 households in Seksyen 18 and Seksyen 24 in Shah Alam. Through the programme, residents will be equipped with the knowledge, facilities and equipment to practice waste separation at home, fostering better recycling behaviour and mindset.

Mr Juan Aranols, Chief Executive Officer, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad commented, “We are pleased to once again extend our recycling efforts to benefit more communities in Selangor. Following the success of our programme in Petaling Jaya, we expanded to reach the residents of Subang Jaya and now continue our momentum to make a positive impact in Shah Alam. Through this pilot project, we hope to engage with the residents of participating strata homes to make recycling accessible for high-density residential buildings and encourage good recycling habits.”

“Findings from this pilot project will enable us to further expand the programme to other strata communities in Shah Alam. This is in line with our target to collect up to 25 tonnes of recyclables per month by 2022, contributing to our vision that none of our packaging ends up in landfills or as litter,” concluded Mr Aranols.

The signing of the MoA between Nestle Malaysia MBSAMr Juan Aranols and YB Puan Rodziah binti Ismail kicked off the launch by disposing recyclable waste into the recycling bins.

Similar to Nestlé’s Door-to-Door Collection & Recycling programme, the Strata Housing Collection and Recycling Programme will feature dedicated collection tools for recyclable waste, whereby a Roll-On Roll-Off (RoRo) Bin with the capacity for large amounts of waste will be placed at each strata building for weekly collection by project partners KPT Recycle. Each household will also be equipped with an educational leaflet, providing information on types of recyclable materials, steps to recycle and the household waste recycling process.
