Putrajaya

MILO® Malaysia Breakfast Day culminated in Putrajaya today with a buzzing crowd of approximately 22,000, adding up to approximately 50,000 participants across seven locations in the country. Following its mission to drive the importance of breakfast as an essential source of energy to “Own the Day”, Malaysians were treated to wholesome breakfast and fun, educational activities, including consultations with nutritionists, after the much loved MILO® Breakfast 3km Family Fun Run and 5km Individual Run and not forgetting the energizing Zumba sessions.

Alois Hofbauer, Region Head of Nestlé Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei said, “Last year we reached out to an estimated 3.2 million school children. This year, we have extended our reach to more Malaysians across seven locations to spread the breakfast message. We have received overwhelming response from the participants and we hope that this will inspire them to rethink and instill the breakfast habit from now on.”

“Along with our efforts to constantly amplify and reinforce the importance of breakfast this year, we collaborated with Nutrition Month Malaysia (NMM),” shared Hofbauer.

“Our body loses 80% of our energy reserves after long hours of sleep. Hence a good breakfast is important to replenish the energy lost so we can maximize our performance; be it mental or physical, throughout the day,” shared Cher Siew Wei, Corporate Wellness Manager, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad.

Cher explained that the current breakfast trends of Malaysian children are not looking optimistic. Citing recent findings from MyBreakfast Study, Malaysia’s first comprehensive nationwide study on breakfast habits involving 8,705 school children, it was highlighted that 1 in 4 children skip breakfast at least 3 days a week.

The study also revealed that children who did not have breakfast showed low physical activity levels; while there was a distinct correlation of children with higher physical activity levels, having consumed malted beverages.

“Malted beverages can be an effective dietary strategy to improve overall breakfast quality. According to the MyBreakfast Study, those who drink malted beverage were more likely to meet the Recommended Nutrient Intake (RNI) in terms of total energy intake, protein and other vitamins,” added Cher.

“Most Malaysians don’t seem to realize just how important the first meal of the day is. NMM is pleased to support this massive initiative to spread the message of importance of consuming nutritious breakfast,” shared Dr. Tee E Siong, Chairman of NMM Steering Committee.

Hofbauer continued, “We are so pleased to be able to extend our reach across the nation this year. It is very rewarding to see such an overwhelming response from so many families across Malaysia demonstrating a positive spirit. Besides driving a healthy lifestyle within the community, it also gives us the opportunity to come up close and thank them for their continuous support.”

The breakfast event hosted activities for everyone, including Zumba, football, educational games and also Body Mass Index checks with nutritionists from NMM, who were at the Wellness Zone for consultations. Chef Fadzly Omar also hosted a cooking workshop demonstrating quick breakfast recipes suitable for busy families.

Melaka was the first city to host this year’s MILO® Malaysia Breakfast Day (27 March), followed by Kuantan (10 April), Kota Kinabalu (17 April), Johor (23 April), Penang (15 May), Kuching (22 May), and culminating in Dataran Putrajaya as the grand finale of the largest breakfast gathering in Malaysia this year.
