The Kuching Waterfront is a bazaar-like riverside walk that stretches about 1 km. Situated along the Kuching River, the walkway offers wide, scenic sky portraits and air is noticeably cool and enjoyable, especially in the morning. Getting there is relatively easy as it is situated right at the edge of Kuching city centre. Parking is not a problem as you could park anywhere near the shop-lots, and there is even a designated parking area. What's noticeable in contrast to Kuala Lumpur is the low traffic even after working hours. This makes it a convenient walking venue. |

Adding on to the bazaar feel of the waterfront are the stalls and cafes that line the pathway. This also means that the area is well facilitated. Safety is not an issue as there is a security booth and guards who patrol the area periodically. Toilets are cleaned regularly, although there is a 20 sen fee to enter.
Other facilities include a mini theatre and plenty of gazebos for resting. If you forgot to bring water, you could always stop by any of the stalls or nearby cafes for a quick drink. |
Although the path is relatively short, the interesting thing about the area is that you could consider exploring the little roads around Kuching. The city houses plenty of beautiful temples, churches and heritage buildings that attract sightseers, local and foreign alike.

Kuching Waterfront tends to be a little busier in the morning as it is situated close to the wet market. Visitors are sparse but present all-day long, creating a spacious atmosphere. Completing the stretch of 4,000 steps takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and the charming scenery is a good reason to consider repeating a few bouts.
When you're done with your walking, you could consider taking a river-boat ride or have a meal at any of the nearby restaurants. |
